Center for Talented Youth 2007-2008 Talent Search Online Application
Welcome! We're pleased you're here. Please review this page to understand the benefits and
conditions of applying to the CTY Talent Search. At the end of this page (scroll down) you
can click to continue.
Talent Search eligibility:
CTY invites enrollments from students who are in grades two through
eight (or age equivalents for home-schooled students) and meet the following academic
requirements:
-- Achieve scores at or above the 95th percentile or higher on a nationally normed test.
-- Earn scores at advanced levels (advanced proficiency, distinguished, honors, etc.) on state tests
-- Demonstrate superior academic performance.
Visit test qualifications www.cty.jhu.edu/ts/tests.html for any further needed information.
States with full Talent Search benefits:
CTY offers full Talent Search benefits in 19 states and DC. What does this mean? It means that CTY
holds spring awards ceremonies in these states for top scoring students. Additionally, some CTY programs,
such as our Family Academic Programs, are located nearer to students in these states.
States with full Talent Search benefits are Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii,
Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island,
Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Students located outside these states are welcome to apply to the CTY Talent Search, especially
if a key reason for doing so is to enroll in CTY's summer or distance online programs.
Fees and Deadlines
Grades 2-8: Talent Search application fee
$35.00
Students interested in Summer Programs and/or Awards Ceremonies should apply online by December 1. Applications accepted online until May 31 for all other Talent Search benefits.
Listed fees cover the child's enrollment into the CTY Talent Search and are used to offset the
cost of the search, the production of test result reports, and the sponsorship of CTY awards
ceremonies. The Talent Search fee is not refundable.
At this time, CTY accepts Mastercard and Visa cards only.
Later, when you sign your child up for his or her test, you will pay a second fee to the testing agency.
Financial Aid:
The CTY Talent Search offers financial help to eligible students who also qualify for free
or reduced-price lunch programs.
Financial aid students cannot apply online, but should go here to request a paper Talent
Search application, or call 410-735-6278, or email ctyinfo@jhu.edu and request a Talent Search
application and a Financial Aid form.
International students
Welcome! Each year CTY welcomes Talent Search applications from students from over 60
foreign countries.
International students should not use this form but should visit the CTY International Talent Search pages.
After you apply online...
... a welcome packet containing testing information and test registration forms will be sent
to the address you gave us.
If you have not received the test registration packet within three (3) weeks of applying to
Talent Search, contact CTY IMMEDIATELY at 410-735-6278, 410-735-6200 (fax), or email ctyinfo@jhu.edu
Have your child take the specified test. Students must test by February 15th to qualify for
summer programs and awards ceremonies.
Final words..
Tests given through the Talent Search can be challenging. Gifted students usually thrive in
the face of such challenges, but this may not be a recommended activity for test-averse students.
CTY does not provide student information to outside groups in accordance with our privacy statement,
though student names may be published in community newspapers should copies of CTY's awards ceremonies
programs be made available to such media sources.
Remember to take the next step and register to test. Test registration steps will be given in
CTY's welcome packet that you'll receive by mail.
Acknowledge, and Continue
I have read and understand the conditions of Talent Search participation.
