Correct Browser Settings for our Courses

Most of our courses require a standards-compliant web browser, with the following features enabled:

• Javascript: most web-based courses and CTY web sites.
• pop-up windows: most web-based courses, Writing CD, WebCT.
• cookies (first party): all web-based courses, WebCT, Math Whiteboard, Quiz Corner.
• Java: Accelerated Grades K-6 Math, Whiteboard, and Problem Solving.
• Flash plugin: Writing CDs, most web-based science courses.
• QuickTime: CD-based courses.
• Authorware web player: Honors Biology & Chemistry.

How to configure your web browser

In general, the default configuration of any up-to-date web browser should work correctly with our courses. If you desire to make any changes, you should insure that they do not interfere with the operation of our courseware.

You also must manage any 3rd party add-ons (such as plugins, toolbars, or BHOs) that you have installed, and adjust or remove them if needed.

If you are seeing this message, your browser settings are incorrect and/or your browser version is out of date.

Settings for Microsoft Internet Explorer (Windows)

1. Make sure Windows is fully updated and protected from spyware
2. Open Internet Explorer
3. Click the Tools menu -> Internet Options
4. In the Privacy tab, the Privacy level should be Medium
5. In the Security tab, you may need to add your course web site to the Trusted zone. You will receive specific instructions if this is the case.
6. Click the OK button

If you want to use Custom levels or Advanced settings, it is your responsibility to make sure that your browser is compatible with our courses.

Settings for Mozilla Firefox or Netscape 7+

The defaults for these browsers should work with our courses. If you want to use custom settings instead, that's okay, but it is your responsibility to make sure that your browser is compatible with our courses.

Note for Safari, Opera, and other browsers

Any standards-compliant web browser probably should work with our programs, but these browsers may or may not be officially supported depending on the course.
